Natural wax-from soybeans, palm trees, beeswax and other
natural sources:
* Burns cleaner-almost no soot or toxins, safer
for asthma sufferers and the environment.
* Burns up to 50% longer than paraffin.
* Comes from all-natural, renewable resources such as soybeans, which supports American
farmers!
* Throws more scent.
* Melts at a lower temperature than paraffin, which makes it safer!
* Cleans up with hot water and soap.
(but is still a wax and should not be poured down a drain.)
* Has been keeping a stable price, where paraffin (petroleum) costs have been skyrocketing!
Our smooth finish scented jar candles are made from 100%
soy wax with fragrances added. The feathery and crystal finishes are made from palm
wax blends. For our jar and pillar candles, we do not use paraffin wax unless specifically
requested. Our pillar and votive candles are made with the same basic formulas,
except that pillar and votive candles cannot be made from 100% soy, as it is too
soft to stand up by itself. It is usually blended with a little palm wax, which
has a harder finish. You can request the candles be unscented and/or without colors.
Here is a list of hazardous chemicals which can be found in paraffin candles: Acetone,
Benzene, Trichlorofluoromethane, Carbon Disulfide, 2-Butanone, Trichloroethane,
Trichloroethene, Carbon Tetrachloride, Tetrachloroethene, Toluene, Chlorobenzene,
Ethylbenzene, Styrene, Xylene, Phenol, Cresol, Cyclopentene and Lead. For more information
about the EPA findings on lead wicks, see:the EPA's website. Some hazardous chemicals listed by the EPA as being found
in paraffin: "Petroleum distillates - The lighter liquid hydrocarbons refined from
crude oil by distillation, including petroleum ether, naphtha, mineral oil, mineral
spirits, Stoddard solvent and kerosene. (Heavier distillates include lubricating
oil, grease, paraffin wax and asphalt; gaseous distillates include propane, butane).
Liquid petroleum distillates contain varying, but usually small amounts of aromatic
hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene, xylene, cycloparaffins, naphthenes). Liquid petroleum
distillates are flammable. They are skin, eye and respiratory tract irritants. See

use wicks with no lead. If there is wire in the wick (in the case of
pillars andvotives, which helps them burn more centered), it is a zinc-cored wick,
which is non-toxic.
